The ACT Assessment is a nationally recognized college admissions exam that tests the areas of English, Math, Reading, and Science with an optional written essay. ACT results with no essay are accepted by Texas AM University-Commerce for admission. The ACT Assessment is a curriculum based test.
Although “Outstanding Achievements and “Additional Information” are optional, it is highly recommended that you complete these essays. This application uses plain text formatting. You are encouraged to use a word processor like Microsoft Word to compose your essays and to check your word count (250 words for each essay), spelling and grammar.
The University Writing Center has two types of online appointments available to students this summer. We are currently offering both web conference appointments, conducted via Zoom, and online appointments, which involve uploading a document or video through our scheduling system.

Selection Process Each spring semester, eligible students are invited to apply for the University Scholars program. The extensive online application consists of a personal data page, 3 one-page essays (Essay A, Essay B, and Essay C), a one page bibliography for Essay B, a one page short story (following a prompt), an unofficial transcript, and a recommendation form.

The Applicant Information System (AIS) allows you to see exactly where your application is in the process. The HOWDY portal is a one-stop site for news, resources, and student information. Note: Graduate applicants to the Mays College of Business and most HSC programs do not have access to AIS until after admission.
When it comes to writing letters of recommendation, the more time you give your recommendation writer the better. Ideally, you should request a letter of recommendation 6-8 weeks before the actual deadline. You should make sure to send a reminder to your letter of recommendation writer one week before the deadline of the National Fellowship.
